Interview with ChildrenSafeWebsites.

First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?

My name is Christian W. Hahn and I am a dentist, but most importantly a father and a husband. My site, www.ChildrenSafeWebsites.com, was born out of the need to have a "clean" pixel site for families and most importantly children to explore. My site will bring its visitors lots of unique boutiques, vacation and travel packages as well as lots of games. Just what I have always been looking for!

Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?

I am also an avid Entrepreneur, having founded www.DrHahnsNaturals.com, a natural products company, as well as a patent for a cosmetic dental tool. Nevertheless I am always dabbling in new ideas. This one really comes from the Million Dollar Homepage. What a great concept! My hat is off to that boy. It was just too easy not to jump in and follow a new trend.

What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?

I know nothing about HTML...until now :) I chose the Million Dollar Script. It was the cheapest I could find, and since I did not know if this would work I just went with them. So far it has been a good choice :).

What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?

Well, just like all pixel pages it will be up hopefully forever. The difference is that I am angling it towards families and children specifically. Nothing PG-13 or above will make it on my site. I want children to have lots of games to chose from...my daughter loves Sesame Street and they are alike - I hope some of them will sign up, I know many of us parents are looking for a site like mine. It will be nice to have a site your kids can explore without you having to worry about the content.

The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?

My site is almost brand new, so talking to you is one step. Otherwise I am contacting many boutiques and forums that would be a good fit. I am keeping an up to date blog and will forward several of my other successful domains to this one. Viral marketing is of course the most effective type, but that ship has sailed for this concept. The point has to be brought across to advertisers that this in fact is the least expensive type of advertising since it will be up for at least 5 years! Now if you get even a little traffic, then that is good. It is even better if your site is not completely full so that the ads can be read.

What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?

My first 10 advertisers are free for a LARGE 4000 pixel ad. After that it is $1 per pixel. I am not looking to fill this site up quickly but rather with quality sites over a long time. It is all about content! My advertising will be specific through parent groups and forums, which will lead to a more quality oriented crowd, not just window shoppers. My profession also allows me to communicate to many high quality people. I envision this site becoming a staple in this field since the web name alone is easy to remember and I own just about every name around it.

Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?

Well, I think it is a fad with a good future. Things will dip a little bit and then reality will set in. Many pixel sites will drop out, especially the ones that make no sense. The few good ones that have a specific target market will survive and probably actually do quite well. It will be more like a portal. Ideally advertisers will buy larger ads that can be read. That is crucial for the site to survive.

Too many small pixels are hard to see and may not draw enough interest, in my opinion. I guess this high will last maybe a month or two more, then it will settle down until the next big thing hits. Pixel pages that actually offer something will survive, the rest will struggle.

Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?

Well, the original is the best. It has all the recognition and should be respected. I feel www.milliondollarpixy.com has a great concept, like mine. There is always room for more than one top site, so I hope we can find a few more and link together. It is a large field to play on.
