Interview with DecadePage.

First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?

My name is Jeremiah. I'm currently working on a B.S. in Computer Science with an emphasis in Computer Security and Information Assurance. My site is DecadePage.com. It's an affordable long-term advertising site that I started to help pay off my student loans. I'd like to attend the University of Washington's Information Technology graduate program when I finish my Bachelor of Science.

Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?

I was inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage. I was amazed he was able to sell all his pixels. I wasn't going to start a pixel site at first, because I didn't want to just copy someone else's idea verbatim, but then I thought of using an affordable long-term angle and DecadePage.com was born.

What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?

I bought an inexpensive script on Ebay to start with, then modified it to make it into what I wanted. I chose this route for two reasons: 1. there's only three weeks left in the term so I don't have the spare time to write my own script and 2. I couldn't afford to buy any of the really good software that's out there.

What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?

The images and links on my page will stay there for an entire decade. I'm also rounding up to the nearest year so any pixels bought today won't expire until January 1st 2017.

The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?

I talk about the site on my blog. I have the link in my signature at all the forums I visit. I trade links with friends. My hosting account came with a Yahoo/Overture credit so I'm going to take advantage of a little search engine advertising too. I've also contacted some of my favorite sites directly and offered them some discounted space.

What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?

I offer 10 years for 10 dollars per block. I put a link to my blog on the main grid and it got 30 clicks in 2 days so a person could reasonably multiply that by 15 for a month, then by 12 for a year and then by 10 to get the total number of visits you might get from my site over the 10 year period.

Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?

I think there is a long term future for people who are in it for the long term. If people are willing to continuously promote their pixel site then they will continuously get visitors.

I think we're going to hit a corner soon where a lot of people are going to get bored and frustrated and take their sites down. The enormous number of sites that are out there now will get whittled down to just the people who are dedicated.

It will also be important for site owners to offer a reason for their visitors to keep coming back, which is something I plan to do. (How I plan to do that is a secret for right now, but how about I break the news on your page when I'm ready?) .

Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?

50millionpixels.com because he's able to sell pixels (even with that eyesore of a site). Also charitypixels.com because they're doing it for a good cause and have a very nice looking site.

Thanks for your time in answering these questions. Before you go are there any comments you want to impart to our pixel hungry readership?

Naturally I hope everyone will visit www.DecadePage.com and consider me for their advertising needs. I'd also like to thank Allan for the interview and thank you for reading it.
