Interview with Homepage4science.

First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?

Ikon Informatix is the team behind homepage4science.com. We've been in the science industry for many years and are always on the lookout for new ways to improve communication in the industry.

Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?

What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?

Million Dollar Script from Markus at Texmedia because it's flexible.

What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?

We believe that having subject specific pages is the way pixel ads will develop. We have easy to find sections of vendors, academic societies, scientific publications and jobs sections. There is also a free section for scientists themselves - who are the homepage4science users - to add the fun element. Science marketing can be very boring!!

The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?

Search engine PPC, links on science sites, direct e-marketing and press releases.

What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?

As our site is international, with the majority of advertisers and users in the US, we charge $1 per pixel per year. We have no idea how much traffic an advertiser will get! However, as most of our advertisers supply high value products even a small increase in traffic makes a few dollars a good investment.

Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?

We think future pixel ads will be subject specific so we are setting up a series at www.homepage4pixels.co.uk for the UK market such as www.homepage4homes.co.uk and www.homepage4gardens.co.uk.

Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?

The Million Pixel Dog page because it expands the idea of regional and specific ads so that it is user friendly.
