First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?
We're pretty shy in handing our names out so Webmaster at MP3Board.com will have to suffice. If you really want to know more you could check the news articles about us on Google.
Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?
MillionDollarHomepage. We didn't use the same technical implimentation though (single image map vs. multiple images).
What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?
We built it manually in HTML via notepad. There is no backend script. If we start getting a serious amount of orders we might impliment it via a custom script.
What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?
MP3Board.com is only accepting advertising from music/mp3/cd/podcasts/radio/band related websites. By sticking to a single genre of advertiser we hope to able to provide users with a valuable directory of information as well as provide the advertisers with significant traffic. This is one of our long term traffic sustaining goals.
The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?
As stated in the previous question we'll sustain traffic by providing users with a useful directory of music/mp3/cd/podcasts/radio/band related websites as part of our traffic sustaining goals. We have an existing traffic base so our other ideas to generate and sustain traffic will have to stay a secret for now.
For our implimentation the more advertisers we have the more traffic we think will be sustainable long term because we will be providing a valuable music resource to our users who will come back again and again to find music related websites.
What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?
We're charging $1 per pixel because we have a niche target audience and are only accepting music/mp3/cd/podcasts/radio/band related advertisers. Million Dollar MP3Board is launching our pixel advertising with over 1000 uniques a day in existing music related traffic as well as a over 1000 incoming links (PR6) from around the web. I'd say how much traffic the advertisers receive from each ad really depends on what they're advertising and what their pixel ads look like. In the long term the quality (PR6) of our link to the advertiser should pay for itself even if you received very little traffic directly.
Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?
The long term is ad networks based on pixel advertising much like AdBrite or BlogAds does today for text ads and blog ads. Pixel ad network ads could easily be intergrated into most existing websites.
Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?
The first one MillionDollarHomepage for being the king and MillionQuarterWebpage for making it to the #2 slot by brute force with no major marketing muscle on the back end (that I know of anyway).
Thanks for your time in answering these questions. Before you go are there any comments you want to impart to our pixel hungry readership?
