First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?
Hi, we're the team behind Pixel-Lotteries. We haven't actually been in the internet business as long as most people, but we're learning quickly!
Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?
Lol. We're sorry to say we fit in the "most people" category there. Our inspiration came from the "MillionDollarHomepage". Alex's new, innovative and unique method of advertising just captured our attention. It really goes to show how a small but good idea can have such a large effect!
What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?
We personally use the "Million Dollar Script". We purchased our software from them because we came across their site numerous times when searching for pixel advertising software and also because it was so cheap ($50 - lol. It's all about the money)!
We highly recommend this site! The guy running it updates very often and the support they give you is great! We've had numerous problems/questions and have been very satisfied by the speed and quality of replies.
What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?
We have noticed that most pixel sites out there doesn't actually target a particular segment of the internet market. They host such a large variety of adverts that it is not useful to the visitors. We believe that once the pixel advertising craze has come to an end, most of these sites will receive hardly any visitors at all.
For that reason we have decided to host gambling related adverts. We have started to build links with gambling related sites to increase our link popularity and to try and get a pagerank, which a significant number of sites out there just do not have.
We are trying many out many approaches to increase targeted traffic to our site, such as participation in gambling related forums, submission to directories & search engines, paid banners on other sites, link building, joining on gambling webrings, and the use of Press Releases. Our first release was published on the 12th of December and in 3 days it has had 42,569 reads and an estimated 565 pick ups by media outlets.
In addition to all of this, we are currently writing gambling related blogs to try and further increase our exposure. These are still works in progress so we won't publish the urls here as they still doesn't have enough content.
The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?
As mentioned above we use the following techniques:
What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?
Price: Our pixels cost just 5p each. This means that a 10 x 10 pixel block costs just 5 pounds and it will be live for 3 years.
Traffic: The amount of traffic the advertiser receives depends on many factors, such as banner effectiveness, location on our grid, how large it is etc... For this reason we do not want to give an estimate of how much traffic they will receive. What we can tell you is we are receiving on average over 500 unique visitors a day and at the time of writing of this article we are ranked 7th on "Pixel Traffic Watcher".
So the advertiser should get a fair share of this traffic as long as they design an effective advert and place it in a good location where it will get maximum exposure.
Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?
We think that traffic to pixel sites will start to decline very rapidly once the "MillionDollarHomepage" has filled up. Even now if you check the Alexa stats for the "MillionDollarHomepage" you can see that the traffic rank, reach and number of page views are slowly on the decline.
However with the right approach we believe that pixel-advertising sites can still be a useful advertising resource. It's just that it can no longer be a "set-up your site, tell others and wait" approach, as the idea is starting to get old now.
Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?
We love all sites that have a unique point about them. A few that we can think off the top of our heads include, "The Six Million Dollar Cube", "Monopoly Pixels", "Pixel Earthage", and the "Million Dollar State".
Thanks for your time in answering these questions. Before you go are there any comments you want to impart to our pixel hungry readership?
Well we just hope you found this article useful and hope that you will visit our site one day.
