First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?
I'm Jeff Preshing and my site is Pixel-Mart.com.
Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?
From the Million Dollar Homepage. A friend told me about it when it was at $15,000. Then I watched the copycats crop up. After months of thinking and talking about it, I saw that many of the copycats were making money. So I thought, "Ah heck, I'll make one too.".
What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?
Pixel-Mart.com is running off PHP and mySQL. I did all the graphics and programming myself.
What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?
The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?
I bought a $1600 pixel ad on the Million Dollar Homepage in mid-December. It's the big-nose guy near the bottom-right. My prediction was that when MDH fills up, it would receive a lot of media attention, so if I put a good ad on there, I could get lots of clicks. That came true. On my busiest day, I got over 5000 visitors directly from MDH.
What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?
The pixel ads on the Pixel-Mart.com homepage are clicked over 1,000 times each week in total, so that's what I have to offer! Each 20x20-pixel block costs $20 and will remain online until at least 2011.
Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?
I think there will be another surge of interest around March 8. That's the deadline for people to submit images for the pixels they bought on MDH. At that point, Alex Tew will probably start publishing T-shirts or something. His site, and other pixel ad sites, will benefit from renewed interest.
In the long run, if there's an audience for something like www.stumbleupon.com which takes you to random cool web pages, then there must be an audience for a good pixel advertising page.
Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?
I admire the Million Dollar Homepage very much. I also admire the Million Quarter Webpage and the Million Penny Webpage. They went online very quickly, and did very well. They were the definitive copycat pages.
