Interview with Themilliondollarpixelhomepage.

First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?

Hi everyone, I’m a 22 year old student studying Multimedia Design in the UK. My website is called the million dollar pixel homepage and is increasing in popularity by the day.

Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?

Yes, I too was inspired by the original idea. I want my website to cover every aspect from holidays, to games, to shops, to gambling etc etc. Basically I want people to save my website in there favourites and not have to bother using search engines because everything they need is on my website.

What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?

I purchased the scripting and added my own touches to it. Being a designer I was solely tempted to completely redesign the look and feel of the website. I then decided against doing this because I wanted to be true to the original idea.

What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?

I will donate $300,000 to charity if I can sell all my pixel space. Money isn’t everything at the end of the day, so I’d rather donate money to a good cause than keep it all to myself.

The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?

I’ve set up numerous advertising campaigns including;

  • Submission of my site to all the main search engines and directories.
  • Paid banners on other sites.
  • Writing in advertising related blogs.
  • Link building.
  • Press Releases (interview with newspaper - see my site)

What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?

Price: the pixels cost just $1 each. This means that a 10 x 10 pixel block costs just $100 and it will be live for 5 years guaranteed but hopefully if I can sell enough to be online for generations to come.

Traffic: The amount of traffic the advertiser receives depends on many factors, such as logo, location on the grid and how large it is etc. For this reason I can’t estimate how much traffic they will receive. But so far I’m receiving excellent feed back from people very pleased with their purchase.

The million dollar pixel homepage is receiving on average around 1000 unique visitors a day, in just its third week. With increased marketing this figure should continuously rise. If I sell all my pixel space I’ll continue to market the website to keep traffic levels high.

Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?

This is an original way to advertise your website on the internet and I believe it will only grow from strength to strength. One of the factors that make pixel pages so great is that you don’t have to navigate round the site, all you need is there on the homepage. I’d say that general pixel pages like this can almost replace the need for search engines if all your favourite sites are on one page you will regularly use that site.

Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?

I quite like the hummer idea I think that’s quite bizarre yet cool idea. But to be brutally honest there’s a whole load of rubbish pixel sites popping up left right and centre.

Thanks for your time in answering these questions. Before you go are there any comments you want to impart to our pixel hungry readership?

I’d just like to thank you for taking the time to read my interview.
