First of please introduce yourself and your site to our readers?
Hi, my name is David Furlow and i am the owner of www.travelpixel.net.
Most people have been inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage, where did you get your inspiration from?
Travelpixel in design is inspired from my work on www.pixelforce.co.uk and various other pixel sites i have seen during that time. I have taken the best bits of several sites and combined them for travelpixel.net.
What software do you use to run your pixel page and why did you choose it?
The software is my own design which lets me create an individual pixelpage. Most of the milliondollar clones are dull copies using a script which i feel is a touch lazy! Make some effort!
What makes your site different or special, what angle have you taken for your Pixel page?
Apart from being strictly travel and tourism based we have three areas: BUSINESS, ECONOMY and DUTY FREE. Business is the most expensive and has the most features, including a 1000 pixel SUPERIMAGE which helps get clients messages across. Economy is a compromise between features and cost while duty free pixels are completely free.
The original pixel page generated traffic mainly through viral marketing mainly spawned by media interest, how do you generate traffic to your site?
We have been running for only a week so far but we have outside promotion running as well as the usual internet marketing and viral approach. Printed flyers, merchandise and press coverage are important for getting the site into peoples conscience.
What do you offer potential advertisers, how much do you charge and how much traffic do you envisage an advertiser could generate by advertising with you?
The business section offers the superimage and the chance to alter the text and image every month if the client wishes. This offers sites which have dynamic content the chance to showcase special offers etc. We aim to have around 10,000 page impressions per day in 6 months, which is a conservative estimate. The translation to traffic for the client depends on area, image and appeal.
Currently the top 5 Alexa ranked pixel sites enjoy a lot of interest from the public. How long do you think this will last, is there a long term future for pixel pages?
I think general pixel sites similar to the original and with no creative thought put into them don't really deserve any attention. Sites that aim at a niche market seem to have more potential in the long term as 'hub' sites for customers in that industry.
Besides your own pixel page, which other pixel page do you secretly admire and why?
I admire the original obviously but there are not really any i have been really blown away by. There are lots of mediocre copies and some really cheesy cynical ones...hopefully travelpixel is a breath of fresh air in some ways!
Thanks for your time in answering these questions. Before you go are there any comments you want to impart to our pixel hungry readership?
Thank you for reading everyone, and please take a look at travelPixel and PixelForce.
