Pixel sites in 2007

It was back in 2005 that the pixel page phenomena really took off with Alex Tew's Million dollar homepage. Since then the pixel ad industry has changed. To the surprise of many the whole pixel advertising arena is still with us but there has been a few changes.

Originally Pixel sites were more commonly referred to as million dollar homepage sites. This reflected the aim of the original site to raise one million dollars through selling pixels making up images on this site.

Fast forward to today and the aim of similar copy cat sites is the same but more realistically aiming to earn a lower amount of revenue through advertising. These sort of sites tend to be referred to as pixel pages that sell pixel ads. The basis has stayed the same but the theme has evolved in an effort to stay fresh and differentiate themselves from all the other pixel sites.

Alex is still hard at work and is now offering pixels as before but this time with a twist on his Pixel Lotto site. The premise this time is to incentivize clicks on ads by offering a one million dollar prize.

At million dollar homepage watch we have seen a slew of sites spring up on the back of the success of the original pixel page. Since then there have been a lot of sites that have closed or become inactive. We have also seen sites that have stood the test of time and are still at the top of the ranked pixel sites list.
